Artist Statement
Carla Chantry
Hi, my name is Carla Chantry. I reside in two homes now that I’m retired, one in Lost Creek, WA and one in Whale Pass, Alaska. We travel back and forth with our pet, Luna, a 3 pound Yorkiepoo.
I was born to be an artist drawing everything when I was very young, but I became a full time artist once I officially retired. I taught first grade in a small community in Washington state where I taught for 30 years and had the joy of teaching my nine grandkids.
I especially like capturing candid moments in time using nature to inspire me, whether it be a mountain scene, a moon lit night or an animal in the wild. Both our homes in Alaska and Washington provide me with plenty of things to paint.
I have painted for the past 50 years. I began with drawing, then painting with oils, and then moved into acrylics and now mixed media. As a child I used paper to make things and it started a love of paper that I didn’t know was there until I retired. By cutting up paper and using various mediums I found my love for painting and it is fulfilling my art journey. Painting with paper has given my art another layer. Using bold colors from nature and creating candid moments in time I am able to give people who love the outdoors a piece of art inspired by nature.
I believe that anything is possible, one step at a time. If you paint what makes you happy your work will sing to you and others.
